Catch the big one in Nicaragua
Fishing off the coast of Nicaragua is among the best you’ll find for two reasons: commercial fishing in Nicaragua is on a very small scale, which leaves plenty of fish for sports fishermen, and though also small, Nicaragua has a skilled sport‐fishing industry.
We can send you out in a sonar‐equipped, center‐console fishing boat with powerful outboard engines, stocked with cold beer and snacks and manned by a salty captain and fishing guide who are experienced with local types of fish, seasonality, tackle required and where to catch a big one. They are also happy to teach you traditional fishing techniques, such as surf‐casting, hand spearing, lobstering, sardine and shrimp fishing with small nets and traditional jigging with hand‐rigged Nica fishing boards.
Guests at Aqua have returned triumphantly from their fishing trips with king mackerel, barracuda, red snapper, amberjack, mahi‐mahi, blue‐fin tuna, yellowfin tuna, roosterfish, snook and many other species—all caught in offshore waters. (Our chef is always happy to cook your catch for your lunch or dinner.) If you would like to spend a whole day at sea, we recommend deep‐sea fishing (catch‐and‐release only) for swordfish, marlin and shark.
We also can arrange fishing trips to Lake Nicaragua and the Rio San Juan, where you can catch‐and‐release 100‐pound tarpon. You can also enjoy fishing and spear‐fishing right here in Aqua’s Redonda Bay. Guests are welcome to bring any or all of their own gear/tackle for fishing at Aqua Wellness Resort, though this is not required.
